Triathlon Training Day 49 – Swim & Gym

December 30, 2015

Coach Marci is a fantastic swim coach. I am still struggling to tie all of the technical pieces together to make a good swim. Today I was out of energy easily. I’m sure this has something to do with the fact that I was woken up at 3:30 and then spent from 4:00-5:00 looking for my keys. Once I was at the pool and going Marci filmed me and we found that my left hand was following through too well while my right hand was not following enough.

So Marci pulled out some toys – swim buoy and swim paddles. It was like I had a power booster. The best part was once I took the paddles off I felt so much faster because of one tip. Here it is:

Flip the wrist while pulling down along my body rather than beneath my body. Imagine you are laying on a surfboard and when your hand enters the water your wrist flips and then your thumb slides down the (imaginary) surfboard.

This made me so much faster with so much less effort. I loved it.

I then ran over to Elevate Fitness to work on my core. Shelby is having me work hard on my core…and it needs it.

Here is the workout.

Circuit 1
CABLE CORE PRESS (anti lateral rotation)
Overhead CABLE presses
Shelby planks

Circuit 2
Slider planks leverage planks
Online sit ups
Kneeling slam balls
