Triathlon Training Day 14 – Plan7 Cycling, Hills, Hills, Hills, Hills, Hills, Hills, Hills

Plan 7 greeted us this morning with seven (yes 7) sustained hill climbs that are 4:00 minute in duration each. As always, the first couple hills aren’t that bad. In fact they are kind of fun. I saw some pressing email come through on my phone so, for almost the entire 90 minutes I answered email. The entire time I was answering email I kept wondering a couple of things –

  1. First, how is answering email affecting my mental game?
  2. Second – if I can answer email and cycle at the same time is the program too easy? Should I up the difficulty?
  3. Third – Why is my rump still crazy sore? I thought your sit bones are supposed to adjust after a couple of weeks? ( I know this last one is kind of random.)

The email flowed while the workout sped by and at the end, during the cool down segment I got a wild hair and tried to push the effort and rpms so hard that the bars would turn red and kiss in the middle. To my delight it worked.  Shifting all the way down, cranking the pedals as fast as my legs would go, a crazy amount of effort, and lots of heavy breathing grew each bar until they met in the middle and even overlapped.

One more wild hair popped up. After the 90 minutes of biking I decided to do what Coach Marci directed last week but because of equipment and passwords I wasn’t able to do – Run right after biking. So I jumped on the treadmill right after Plan7. I left my bike on the CompuTrainer and hurried over to the treadmills. I set it at 8:00/mile and ran. Several people in my class passed me as they were leaving and thought I was a little crazy. Maybe crazy, or maybe dedicated to winning a triathlon.
